KurzbeschreibungKeine Kurzbeschreibung vorhanden DescriptionDjockoua Manyaka Toko is Senior Lecturer of American and Commonwealth literatures at the Department of English of the Faculty of Arts, Letters, and Social Sciences, University of Yaounde I, Cameroon. Her research interests include American literature, literary theory and criticism, comparative literature, cultural studies and postcolonial studies. She has published numerous articles on narration and the nation, gender, education, culture, and history. Her book Culture, History, and Comparative Literature: John Steinbeck and René Philombe is a comparative study of the major works of Steinbeck and Philombe. ReviewsOne of the interesting areas of comparative literary studies is that of examining the relations and influences between different national literatures to determine whether the similarities found in the works of writers from different national, social and linguistic borders are cases of literary analogies or influences. This is what the author does in Culture, History, and Comparative Literature by examining the works of the American novelist John Steinbeck and the Cameroonian novelist, poet and playwright René Philombe. It is an important contribution not only to the discipline of Comparative Literature, but also to American, African, Cultural and Postcolonial studies. It should be on the shelf of any serious student of these academic disciplines. |
