Kurzbeschreibung

Wild Coffea arabica is native to the Afromontane rainforests in southwest and southeast Ethiopia. Currently, the remaining wild populations of coffee in Ethiopia are highly threatened by deforestation and expanding settlements. In this study, the analysis of genetic diversity of C. arabica employed plastid (chloroplast genome) and ISSR fingerprints based on individuals collected throughout the native range of C. arabica. The results show the presence of a complex geographical distribution pattern of genetic diversity with most regions possessing their own genotypes. It is the first study to provide evidence that wild populations of C. arabica are genetically different from semi-domesticated plants (farmer’s varieties). Recommendations for conservation and use are given.
